Formed on June, 2001 in Mainland China, the girls were selected by audition from over 4000 contestants, all studying at prestigious schools in China. Their 2003 debut album in Japan, Beautiful Energy, sold 2 million units, and ranks as the highest-selling Chinese band in Japan. These 12 talented young women playing traditional Chinese instruments — the erhu (Chinese violin), pipa,(pear-shaped lute), gu zheng (zither), yangqin (hammered dulcimer), dizi (transverse flute), and xiao (vertical flute)-showcase an eclectic mix of traditional Chinese folk melodies and selections of jazz, classical, and pop music. They have become very popular both in China and abroad. 12 Girls Band has played two tours in the United States. American audiences will witness the worldwide phenomenon in concert when 12 Girls Band embarks on a major 30-city U.S. tour in the fall of 2007. Click here to hear a sample piece. CD Track Listing:
