As we drive you through the historical tunnel, the old emperors, heroes and heroines will greet you and tell you their stories.  Let's see whom you are going to meet today!   Here comes

                                     The First Emperor

Hello!  My name is Ying Zheng.  It is now 221 B.C. and I am 39 years old.  China has been in a perpetual state of war among the principalities for as long as my grandfather can remember.  I have finally ended the fighting and built a grand unified China.  I call myself the First Emperor, and call my empire the Chin Dynasty, that is how the western world got the name China.  In order to protect my country, I am extending the powerful Great Wall.   I have one

other major project going on right now.  My imperial tomb is being constructed near Xi'an city ( northwest China), I will be taking an army of terracotta armored warriors and horses to protect me as I travel through the nether world.

" It's very nice to meet you, Ying Zheng and thank you for sharing your stories with us".  Let's continue our journey.

"Please Wait, I have something to say".   Look!  An old scholar is coming toward us.  We hear what he is saying:

Ying Zheng may have unified China, but he is also a brutal ruler.  He burned the literature of earlier periods, buried scholars alive and made extreme punishments for minor offenses.  I can't imagine his regime will last long.

Our journey stops here today.  Ying Zheng continued to rule China until 206 B. C.  As the old scholar said, his regime didn't last long.  His army of life-size terracotta armored warriors and horses won't be discovered until 1974 and open to the public in the early 80's.  You will be astonished by this splendid underground troop!  Please let us know when you plan your trip to Xi'an, we would love to give you more detailed information.  HometownChina is always here for you!
